Zygarde is a Legendary Pokémon that was first introduced in Pokémon X and Pokémon Y. However, unlike the other Legendary Pokémon of Kalos, Xerneas and Yveltal, it did not have any significant role in the story. In fact, it was only obtainable after defeating the Pokémon League, by traveling all the way to the back of Terminus Cave. Many players were left puzzled by this creature, wondering why it was seemingly pushed to the side, thoroughly unimportant and uninteresting.
However, in the October 2015 edition of CoroCoro, we learned that the Zygarde we knew was only one of its Formes. The other Formes were first featured in the anime Pokémon the Series: XYZ, and became available in the Generation VII games.
All Formes still keep Zygarde's Dragon/Ground typing.
Zygarde Cells and Cores are not actually official Formes of Zygarde; rather, they come together to make up the Formes. Zygarde Cells have flat, gooey bodies and are not able to think for themselves or battle. Zygarde Cores, on the other hand, act as part of Zygarde's brain.
Zygarde Cores communicate with each other using telepathy, and gain energy from the sun using photosynthesis.
Zygarde 10% Forme
When 10% of Zygarde's total cells come together, Zygarde 10% Forme is achieved. In this dog-like Forme, Zygarde is extremely fast, and has dangerously sharp teeth.
This Forme was officially announced in September 2015, along with Zygarde Core, Zygarde Cell, and Zygarde Complete Forme. It has appeared in the anime series, but won't be available in any main series games until Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon. On June 11th, 2016, footage of Zyagrde 10% Forme was officially shown in a trailer. It used two new moves: Thousand Arrows and Thousand Waves, both Ground-type.
Zygarde 10% Forme's ability is known as Swarm Change (スワームチェンジ) in Japanese; the English name has not yet been revealed. This causes it to transform into its Complete Forme when low on HP, restoring some of its HP in the process.
Zygarde 50% Forme
This is the Forme that was originally available in Pokémon X and Pokémon Y, before it was announced that it had others. In 50% Forme, its body becomes large and snake-like, and it is said to only have half of its full power.
Zygarde 50% Forme has a signature move called Land's Wrath. It can learn this powerful Ground-type move in Pokémon X and Pokémon Y, and has used it in the anime series to escape danger. When used, this move releases beams of light from the ground, attacking all nearby opponents.
This Forme's ability is Aura Break, which reverses the effect of Xerneas and Yveltal's abilities.
Zygarde Complete Forme
When Zygarde reaches its full power, it transforms into its Complete Forme. Said to be even more powerful than Xerneas and Yveltal, Complete Forme only happens when the Zygarde Core believes it is necessary. This Forme was originally teased in the September 2015 edition of CoroCoro, and officially revealed alongside Zygarde Core, Zygarde Cell, and Zygarde 10% in September 2015.
In a trailer released on June 11th, 2016, Zygarde Complete Forme was shown using a new signature move called Core Enforcer.
