Hello, and welcome to the newest renovation of the Challenger’s Clan! Here we’re all about challenge runs, mostly consisting of limitations set by the player. This can vary from what Pokemon can be caught, to what moves can be used, to anything in between, whatever you can come up with! Even if you’ve never tried challenges, you’re more than welcome to join our community. We discuss challenges, keep up with challenge progress, and maybe even participate in challenges as a group. Just fill out the form below if you’re interested!
-Please wait for your form to be accepted before actively participating in the thread.
-Be kind to other members. Active and intentional meanness will result in a ban from the club.
-If you are inactive for more than a month, you will be removed from the member list. You can rejoin the club, but you will need to fill out the form again. Let me know if you plan on being gone for more than a month.
-If you have a thread for your challenge and want to post an update here before posting to your thread, you may chose to use the spoiler tag. If someone does this, don’t intentionally spoil the update for everyone.
-Try to stay on topic at all times. This is a thread to discuss Pokemon challenges, not random Twitter memes that you just happen to catch.
-All the rules have a bolded letter that spell out a word. Put this word in the Other section of your application to confirm that you read the rules.
Nickname: What would you like to be called on this thread? (EXAMPLE: I go by Scott for the most part.)
Name Color: Post what color you would like your name to be on the Member List. Please post a BBCode color name or a Hex Code. (EXAMPLE: Hex #79b1c8, because it’s Luxray’s “blue” shade. (You don’t need to include a reason))
Pokemon to represent you: What Pokemon do you want next to your name on the member list? These can be two different Pokemon, or the same. (EXAMPLE: Scolipede and Lapras, my top two favorite Pokemon)
Ongoing Challenges: What challenges are you currently doing? If you post a link, I will put the challenge next to your name on the member list. (EXAMPLE: Currently in with my Moon Wonderlocke and Ultra Moon Biological Class challenge.)
Past Challenges: Pretty Self-explanatory. What challenges have you done in the past? (completed, failed, or retired) (EXAMPLE: Since 2017, multiple Monotypes on Sun/Moon including Dark, Electric and Fairy, and multiple Blue Mono-Color challenges, ie Black 2, Soul Silver and Moon.)
Other: Anything else you want to add. (EXAMPLE: Read the rules.)
Least favourite challenge... Uranium. It fell apart VERY quickly, and I got bored of it. Second least would either be my undocumented White 2 Nuzlocke or my SoulSilver Nuzlocke that got all the way to Blaine.
Though, with more information on Pokemon Azurite coming out, and Phoenix Rising coming soon (even though they'll just be playthroughs), I really should get around to getting the last... 15... 16 chapters out on Insurgence. And maybe get more out on my Gallade Solo. Both of them are slightly annoying to write.
Oh btw why is my name still Alolan_Absol in the member list
Probably just copy-pasted and we didn't catch it. Fixed it, though! C:
Not counting challenges that never really got very far, my least favorite was probably my Ruby Wedlocke. I just wasn't very invested in the story I had going for it, which really affects the way I look back on it.
For me, you'd probably expect me to say my Black 2 Nuzlocke after the catastrophe that it ended as, and while I'm not proud of it at all, I would have to say an X Wedlocke that I did not very long after the game's release. The healing points thing meant next to nothing because of all the healing spots in the game, this was before Marriland said that Set mode is not the best idea for a Wedlocke, things weren't that exciting early on, and while I had no deaths for a while after Korrina, things got worse fast at Frost Cavern, and then Victory Road. It was just brutal. I ended up pulling the plug on it before even trying to face the last three trainers. And then there were people butthurt over my decision which didn't make it any better. Yeah. It sucked. Thankfully I had a much better X Wedlocke very early that summer.
My least favorite challenge was probably the mono-color I did, but mostly because the assigned colors make no sense and I couldn't just play it without the wiki loaded. I am posting the first post of the Platinum part of my generation locke later today. Be on the lookout for it!
Well, to name one, there was this one Halloween themed challenge on PokeCommunity back in 2014 (ORAS hadn't even released yet), where you had to throw a Haunter on your team (or in Hoenn or Unova's case, Dusclops or Lampent respectively), and in addition to the emblem that you would get for completing it, you would also get a second emblem if you added two or more self-imposed rules to your challenge. In addition to Set battle style + no healing in battle or Exp. Share, I implemented a rule where once I had a full team of six, I had to use an RNG and have it choose a number from 1 to 6. Whichever slot it lands on, the team member in that slot couldn't participate in anything in that area until each trainer there was defeated. It would sometimes set me back certain Pokemon that would primarily be effective well. Played it on X, see it for yourself here.
I also started a new game on a secondary copy of Ultra Sun (thank you Best Buy Gamer's Club for discounting), right now it's just a Water Monotype, but there are a lot of them in this game and quite a few I want to try to use! At the same time I do want it to be at least somewhat original, and I've narrowed it down to 18 Pokemon out of the 40 or so I can catch, although I do know that Primarina and Araquanid will surely be on my final team (really stinks that the latter doesn't get Liquidation until the very end, though). I'll definitely talk about it on PokeCommunity as it goes.
Hey guys! Happy to see this is up and running now. Sorry I've been silent for a while. I got distracted with other games and school starting back up. But anyway... I should hopefully have the next chapter of platinum up sometime this week. I just need to get a bit more gameplay in and I'll be good. As for the questions that have been asked so far.
My least favorite challenge. I think I'll go with my White nuzlocke that I recorded on my own in docs. It had a lot of luck, like me having no death until Twist Mountain. But once that death happened, my starter that had just evolved into serperior, it went downhill a bit. I got a bit more risky and lost a few backups and one of my other mains, my swoobat, due to me not switching out when I should've. I made it through the elite four and then the battle with N and the battle with Ghetsis, or at least the start, was about to get me killed. The game freezing randomly was a blessing, but not something I should've gotten. So, that playthrough was a mixed pot of emotions that I just wish I could've played better.
As of yet I haven't made any challenges of my own. But doing variations has always been enjoyable for me.
@Null: Oh geez, that's not a good sign for your challenge! I'm not going to talk about writers block again, but I hope things can improve on your end.
@Resolute: Hehe, that's a funny idea for something. But yeah, musical hype!!! And I haven't really thought of any big ideas other than what I've already started, but you can always check PokeCommunity for some ideas! There were times that I considered doing something from the Time Warp Challenge, but that wasn't what I ended up doing in the end. Here's the thread there for yourself, if you're interested.
Anyway, in my Water Monotype, I beat Totem Gumshoos today (used Psyduck and Wingull yet again, but only the latter will be on my final team), but I can't catch Seel yet because I need Lapras for that. Tomorrow I can catch Squirtle, though, which I will definitely do, even if it likely won't be on my final team. This will be my fourth playthrough of Ultra, including my Bird Challenge, which I hopefully won't have too much trouble against Totem Marowak in, given I have two Water-types and more than one way to erase its Speed boost. Hopefully in due time, after completing the game a few more times, I'll actually take on a Nuzlocke in these games. Or something else crazy. Yes, even with Ultra Necrozma and the buffed totems. I do want to do a story on these games at some point. :D
@Resolute Yeah. I've started two I think on this site. One was furret sololocke that ended at the Silver fight before Morty I believe because of his gastly. I hadn't known you could get the tm just outside of town that I think was night slash or something that could hit ghost types. I was also hit by confusion and curse I believe so yeah... That was the end of that one. But I did later do one in my own time, another HG furret solo, and ended up completing it through Red. Solos are definitely one of my favorites when it comes to challenges. The other one I began was a platinum probopass sololocke/ run like the furret one. But I abandoned that one very very early on and never came back to it unfortunately. Since then I haven't attempted one, but would like to again at some point.
The only solo challenge I can recall that I've done was the Scolipede solo challenge for Lush Jungle back in the summer. I may have done another solo challenge many years ago, but if I did then I definitely don't remember.
But in regards to my own challenges, yesterday in my Water Monotype, I beat Totem Araquanid. Took two tries, second try I did get rather lucky even though I had little to use against it. Not expecting Totem Marowak to be too difficult, but Lurantis, well let's just say I'll try to make use of Rain Dance and the Flying-type to help some.
And on that note, just beat Totem Lurantis in my bird challenge. As you can probably guess, it was not a very difficult fight at all. It helped that my Magby had Clear Smog to get rid of its Speed boost, though. Olivia might be worrying, but I do have a Water-type and a Fighting-type ready for her, neither of which are weak to Rock. I am hoping to start another Nuzlocke soon, though! Or maybe something else entirely.
