There are tons of new features in Pokémon X & Y, with more features being revealed all the time! Here's a run down of some of the new features added, as well as links to pages going more in-depth on the new features.
Mega Evolution is a new mechanic that revolutionizes evolution, allowing certain Pokémon to Mega Evolve into a powerful new form, potentially changing their ability, types, and certainly changing their appearance. Mega Evolutionary forms, such as Mega Mewtwo or Mega Ampharos, are different from their usual counterparts, and require items known as Mega Stones in order to induce the Mega Evolution.
Pokémon-Amie is a new feature that allows players to interact with their Pokémon, playing with them, feeding them, and even just petting them. This leads to improvements in battle, such as increased critical hit rates and dodging ability.
At long last Pokémon fans have the option of customizing their characters in a main series Pokémon game. You can wear accessories, hats, change your clothes and hair, and much more. These changes will appear to all of your friends, acquaintances, and even passersby.
New Battle Styles
Pokémon X & Y introduces at least two new battle styles. The first of these battle styles is Horde Battles, which pit one of your Pokémon against five wild Pokémon in a single battle! These can be very dangerous, so attacks that hit multiple targets are key for victory in these Horde Battles.
Sky Battles are another new battle style introduced in Pokémon X & Y, which allow Trainers to battle in the air using only certain Flying-type Pokémon or Pokémon with the Levitate ability.
Player Search System (PSS)
The Player Search System (abbreviated as PSS) is the replacement for the old C-Gear, Union Room, and GTS, rolled all into one easily-accessible device. It allows players to trade, battle, and interact over either local wireless or online.
New Travel Methods
There are also a few new methods of travel in Pokémon X & Y. The first new travel method is the ability to ride Pokémon. Certain Pokémon may be ridden by their Trainers in order to get from place to place or to make traversing cumbersome terrain easier.
Another new method of travel is the use of Roller Blades, which allow you to zip around quicker than walking, plus you can use them to wall slide against banisters and the like.
You also have the option of playing Pokémon X & Y in one of seven languages, too. You can't change the language while you're playing the game, but presumably you'll be able to change it before firing up the game each time you play.
After years of being unable to do so properly, you can now finally sit down on benches while playing Pokémon X & Y. Benches are included in various towns and cities throughout Kalos, although Santalune City is a city famous for their benches, among other things.
