Pokémon X & Y

Pokémon X and Pokémon Y are the two newest main series Pokémon games to be revealed. They will be released worldwide for the Nintendo 3DS on October 12th, 2013, marking the first time that Japan has shared its release date for a Pokémon game with the rest of the world.

They were first announced in a special Nintendo Direct broadcast on January 8th, 2013, after much speculation. The broadcast revealed a total of five Pokémon: Chespin, Fennekin, Froakie, Xerneas, and Yveltal (although the last two did not have their names revealed until the day after the announcement).

New Pokémon

As of October 3rd, a total of 42 new Pokémon have been officially revealed.

Above are the three new starter Pokémon — Chespin, Fennekin, and Froakie. These are just three of the new Pokémon, though. To view the current list of new Pokémon, just click the button below!

New "Mega Evolutions"

Mega Evolution
is a new mechanic that revolutionizes evolution, allowing certain Pokémon to Mega Evolve into a powerful new form, potentially changing their ability, types, and certainly changing their appearance. Mega Evolutionary forms, such as Mega Mewtwo or Mega Ampharos, are different from their usual counterparts, and Mega Evolve when the Mega Stone for that species is held in battle, such as the Lucarionite. The Mega Evolution is temporary and lasts only for the duration of the battle.

As of October 2nd, a total of 13 Mega Evolutions have been revealed. You can view a list of them, as well as hear more about Mega Evolution, by clicking the button below!

New Characters

Shown above are the two new player characters in Pokémon X & Y, who have the default names of Xavier and Yvonne.

New Professor

What would a new region be without a new Pokémon Professor to bestow upon new Trainers their Pokémon? The Kalos Region introduces a new Pokémon Professor, Professor Sycamore, although he is not the one that gives you your first Pokémon.

He resides in Lumiose City, which is where the player meets him for the first time. Upon meeting him, he will give you your choice of either Bulbasaur, Charmander, or Squirtle. He also will challenge the player throughout the game, making him the first Professor to do so in any of the Pokémon games.

In the demo version, you are able to battle Professor Sycamore with a Mewtwo, which is capable of Mega Evolving during the battle. He uses a Crobat, Dragonite, and Chandelure.

New Villains

Of course, there's always an evil organization standing in your way with their own nefarious plans. That organization has been revealed to be Team Flare, a snazzy looking team dressed in flashy red suits and donning red shades. Their motives appear to be money-driven, while their theme seems to be fiery in nature. They've been shown using a Houndour in battle.
