Pokémon Sun and Moon: Legendary Pokémon Names, Key Characters, the Rotom Pokédex, and More!

The video above was released on the Official Pokémon Channel this morning, revealing several details about the previously unveiled legendary Pokémon, the names of some key characters, as well as a new device known as the Rotom Pokédex.

(We may add to this article throughout the day, so keep checking back!)

Solgaleo and Lunala

Solgaleo, confirmed to be a Psychic and Steel-type, is known as the Sunne Pokémon. It comes with a brand new ability known as Full Metal Body, which prevents any moves or abilities from lowering its stats.

Sunsteel Strike is Solgaleo's signature move; the Pokémon rises high into the sky in a blaze of glory before charging headfirst at the opponent, ignoring any ability it may have.

Lunala, confirmed to be a Psychic and Ghost-type, is known as the Moone Pokémon. Shadow Shield, also a brand new ability, allows Lunala to take less damage from any attack that lands when it has full HP.

This Pokémon's signature move, Moongeist Beam, ignores any ability the opponent may have as a beam of bright light descends upon them.

The Heroes, Professor Kukui, Lillie, and Hau

The player characters were shown in more depth in the video, and it was also confirmed that you will have the ability to choose from a variety of different looks.

The Pokémon professor in Pokémon Sun and Moon is named Kukui, a tanned male with a unique style. He apparently lives next to the hero's home.

Lillie, a young and mysterious girl, serves as Professor Kukui's aide. She has a love for reading and dislikes making Pokémon fight. Lillie will have an important part in Pokémon Sun and Moon's story.

Hau is the big-hearted friend of the hero character. He has quite the appetite, often in search of shops that sell his favorite dish, malasada.

 The Rotom Pokédex

Professor Kukui gives the hero character a very special device to aid them on their journey: a Rotom Pokédex!

Inhabited by the creature known as Rotom, this Pokédex has its own personality and even speaks! This special device will show the player's current location, mark their next destination, and even gives varying pieces of advice depending on who the hero has spoken to. Now that's a handy Pokédex!

QR Scanner Function

In Pokémon Sun and Moon, there will be a QR Scanner function that enables the player to scan QR codes around them in order to gain information about various Pokémon species, such as where to find them. Try scanning many different codes!
